Abstract:

Come see some of the latest hardware and software releases from IBM, and the performance benefits that can be gained from upgrading to the new hardware types being announced at Edge 2014—specifically the new SVC-DH8 nodes and the V7000 Gen2 platform, both running the new 7.3 code stream. Real world workload results on the new hardware will be compared to the previous generation. The latest Flash system performance for Flash 840, utilized behind the virtualized layers, will be presented. Customer benchmark results will be reviewed to give the audience examples of how their workload may be enhanced.

Tier 0 is a level of storage that’s faster—though perhaps more expensive—than any other level in the storage hierarchy. But how do you justify its costs? By combining technologies such as the Flash 840 with Storage Virtualization (SVC and V7000), and then applying application awareness or smarter data placement, companies can realize significant cost-saving benefits. This presentation will illustrate how using these performance accelerators with Storage Virtualization can eliminate the current Disk I/O choke points in your servers or applications.

We will also be presenting performance benchmarks on SONAS and V7000 Unified, using the latest Code just recently released. You will see customer sample workloads run on the platforms before and after the code upgrades, to see the performance benefits of the recently released 1.5 code levels.
